NBA Championship Odds 2026-27: Contenders Analyzed
Spurs and Thunder at +270, Knicks and 76ers at +900: we break down the 2026-27 NBA title odds and where the value may be before tip-off.

Eight different champions in eight years. If the recent NBA has taught us anything, it's that repeating is incredibly hard and the October favorite doesn't always lift the trophy in June. Even so, the 2026-27 futures market comes in with a fairly clear pecking order: two favorites in the West, two contenders in the East and a pack of teams with a real case.
> All odds are from DraftKings (via ESPN) as of October 12, 2026, unless otherwise noted. Implied probabilities include the sportsbook's margin.

The Two Big Favorites
San Antonio Spurs (+270)
The runners-up arrive with the most feared player in the league. Victor Wembanyama was the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, finished third in MVP voting and led the Spurs to the Finals in his third season. Around him is a young, deep group: De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell, plus Tobias Harris as a veteran addition.
For: a sky-high ceiling, youth and a Game 7 win over OKC in the Western Conference Finals.
Against: Wembanyama played 64 games last season, so his availability is the big variable. Harris also starts the season questionable with a calf injury.
Oklahoma City Thunder (+270)
The 2025 champions still have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning two-time MVP, and a structure that won 64 games. But the summer cost them depth: Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins are gone.
For: the best record in the league, an MVP in his prime and continuity with Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.
Against: fewer perimeter defenders and the sting of the elimination against San Antonio.
Market read: at 27% implied each, the market thinks there's a better than 50% chance the champion comes out of this pair. It's a reasonable bet on paper, but at +270 there's little margin for error if either team suffers a major injury.
The Next Tier in the East
New York Knicks (+900)
The defending champs are priced at +900, level with a team that finished 45-37. The Knicks kept the core of Brunson, Towns, Anunoby, Bridges and Hart that won the Finals 4-1. Brunson was MVP of both the Finals and the NBA Cup. The main loss is Mitchell Robinson, who left for Boston.
Value angle: continuity in a chaotic East is an asset. Some books are offering as high as +1000 (BetMGM, per VegasInsider), so shop around before you get in.
Philadelphia 76ers (+900)
LeBron James and Jaylen Brown join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. On paper, it's the most talented starting five in the East. That talent still has to come together: the five of them shared the floor for the first time only on October 8.
Risk: Embiid's health, LeBron's age (season 24) and splitting the ball among three players who need it in their hands. Worth noting: FanDuel's price stood well above the rest of the field in VegasInsider's comparison, another sign of how much books disagree on this team.
Boston Celtics (+1300)
With a healthy Jayson Tatum, Paul George as a defensive specialist, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Mitchell Robinson, Boston is the dark horse with the most pedigree. The preseason has been very promising (144-106 over Philadelphia, though without the opponent's stars).
Long Shots With a Case
- Cleveland Cavaliers (+2200): knocked out the East's No. 1 seed (Detroit) in Game 7 and still have Donovan Mitchell.
- Detroit Pistons (+2500): 60 wins, but no second creator next to Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Duren's contract was the big story of the summer.
- Minnesota Timberwolves (+2500): LaMelo Ball alongside Anthony Edwards. The most electric duo in the league on paper.
- Denver Nuggets (+2500): as long as they have Nikola Jokić (averaging a triple-double for the second straight season), Denver has a shot.
- Toronto Raptors (+2500): the return of Kawhi Leonard, always dependent on his health.
- Miami Heat (+3000): Giannis Antetokounmpo raises the ceiling, though Miami gave up much of its depth to get him.
- Indiana Pacers (+4000): with Tyrese Haliburton back from his Achilles injury, this is the team with the most room to climb if he returns to his 2025 level.
How to Bet Futures With Discipline
1. Calculate the implied probability. At +900, you need the team to win the title more than 10% of the time for the bet to have positive expected value.
2. Shop for lines. The gap between sportsbooks on the same team sometimes exceeds 100 points of odds.
3. Think about tied-up money. A futures bet locks up your stake until June. Log it in your bankroll as committed money.
4. Spreading your bets has a cost. Betting on five teams "to hedge" usually stacks up the house edge rather than reducing risk.
