Bodø/Glimt vs Dortmund Prediction & Pick (Oct 14)
Bodø/Glimt vs Dortmund preview: Aspmyra's turf, Bodø's home streak, Schlotterbeck's absence, odds and our Champions League value pick.

Borussia Dortmund make the trip above the Arctic Circle on Wednesday, October 14, to face Bodø/Glimt at Aspmyra Stadion (3:00 p.m. ET). On paper it's a German giant against a Norwegian side that just lost 5-0 in Munich. Anyone who watched last season's Champions League knows better. The 1X2 prices: Bodø/Glimt 3.05, draw 4.10, Dortmund 2.09.
Where things stand
After Tuesday's games, Dortmund are 12th in the league phase with three points. Bodø/Glimt are dead last, 36th, with zero points and a -5 goal difference.
That -5 came from a rough opener: a 5-0 loss at Bayern Munich in which Bodø didn't register a shot on target. Dortmund beat Villarreal 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park on Matchday 1, with a Serhou Guirassy brace.
Recent form
Bodø/Glimt have recovered domestically. They've won three of four Eliteserien games since the Bayern loss, including 3-1 over Kristiansund on Saturday, and are level on points with Viking at the top of the table. More importantly, they've won seven straight home games, scoring 21 goals, and haven't lost at home since early May.
Dortmund were on a roll until Friday. Niko Kovač's side led Werder Bremen 2-0 late and drew 2-2. "We dropped two unnecessary points because we had the game under control," defender Waldemar Anton told club media. Before that, BVB had won 1-0 at Stuttgart and 3-0 against Paderborn, and they're on a seven-game unbeaten run (six wins, one draw) since losing the German Super Cup to Bayern on Aug. 22. Kovač also had his contract extended through June 2029 on Tuesday.
Team news
Bodø/Glimt: Center back Odin Lurås Bjørtuft is suspended after his red card in Munich, according to Sports Mole, so Haitam Aleesami is likely to partner Villads Nielsen. Magnus Bech Riisnæs, Håkon Evjen and August Mikkelsen are listed as injured. Top scorer Andreas Helmersen was rested from the start at the weekend and should return.
Dortmund: Reports conflict on Nico Schlotterbeck. The Bundesliga's official live blog says he stayed home as a precaution after recent ankle problems, so treat him as out unless he appears in the lineup. Emre Can, Giannis Konstantelias (both knee) and Justin Lerma (muscle) are out. The same report says Julian Ryerson and Carney Chukwuemeka are fit to travel after minor issues.
Key players
- Andreas Helmersen (Bodø/Glimt): Has 12 top-flight goals this calendar year and has filled the gap left by Kasper Høgh.
- Patrick Berg (Bodø/Glimt): The veteran midfield metronome of Kjetil Knutsen's system.
- Serhou Guirassy (Dortmund): Two goals against Villarreal and the focal point of Kovač's 3-4-2-1.
- Gregor Kobel (Dortmund): May need a big night against a home side that creates plenty at Aspmyra.
Tactical angle
This game is shaped by the setting. Aspmyra has an artificial surface and a capacity of about 8,270, and FotMob's forecast is 9°C (around 48°F). Bodø/Glimt have played the same 4-3-3 under Knutsen for years. As Ryerson put it: "They have their style of play, their patterns and they do that really well."
Kovač knows what's coming: "There have been some big-name teams here, and many have seen how difficult it is to play here." Last season, Manchester City (3-1), Inter (3-1) and Sporting (3-0) all lost at Aspmyra in the Champions League.
Dortmund's 3-4-2-1 should have the better of possession, but without Schlotterbeck the back three loses its best ball-player. Bodø will press in midfield and attack quickly through the wide forwards. If Dortmund's defense wobbles late again, as it did against Bremen, the home side will have chances.
Head-to-head and trends
- These teams have met once: a 2-2 draw in Dortmund on Matchday 6 last season, when Julian Brandt (since departed) scored twice for BVB.
- Last season Bodø/Glimt reached the round of 16 before losing to Sporting, while Dortmund went out to Atalanta in the playoff round.
- Knutsen on that meeting: "They were a little better than us, but we managed to take a point."
Odds breakdown
Dortmund at 2.09 implies about 48% (around 46% after the margin). Bodø/Glimt at 3.05 implies roughly 33%, and the draw at 4.10 about 24%.
We think the market leans a little too hard on the Bayern result and Bodø's table position. At home, on turf, this is a very different team. Based on these 1X2 prices, a fair "Bodø/Glimt or draw" (double chance) price is around 1.84 before the margin. Most books will offer a bit less.
Prediction and pick
Dortmund are the better team, but this is close to the worst possible draw for them: a hostile, artificial pitch, a missing defensive leader and a habit of leaking late goals.
- Prediction: Bodø/Glimt 2-2 Dortmund
- Pick: Bodø/Glimt or draw (double chance 1X); straight alternative: draw (4.10)
- Confidence: 2.5/5 (Medium-Low)
If you play the draw at 4.10, keep it to a small stake. See Saint Stats for both teams' underlying numbers and our predictions page for the full card.
