Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain: Champions Seek a Fourth Straight Win
When: Saturday, October 17 — Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg (11:15 AM ET)
Competition: Ligue 1, Matchday 7
Paris Saint-Germain travel to Alsace looking to extend a five-match winning run across all competitions and keep climbing a Ligue 1 table they still don't top. Strasbourg, winless in three league games, have other ideas — Le Racing are unbeaten at home this season and have taken points in two of their last three home meetings with the champions.
Tale of the tape
| | Strasbourg | Paris Saint-Germain |
|---|---|---|
| League position | 11th (7 pts) | 6th (12 pts) |
| Recent league form | D-L-L | W-W-W |
| Last 5 (all comps) | W-W-D-L-L | W-W-W-W-W |
| Home/away note | Unbeaten at home (last 3) | Unbeaten away in the league |
PSG finding their stride
After a sluggish start — their first Ligue 1 win didn't arrive until round four — Luis Enrique's side have clicked into gear. Three straight league wins (Brest 1-0, Marseille 2-1, Le Mans 3-1) have lifted them to sixth, three points behind leaders Monaco, and the midweek 4-2 Champions League triumph at Manchester City was a genuine statement.
The caveat: Barcelona visit Paris in the Champions League on Tuesday. Expect rotation and managed minutes for some senior players, which could open the door for Strasbourg. Ferran Torres is tipped to lead the line.
Strasbourg's young project
Hugo Oliveira's Strasbourg are the youngest squad in the league — the oldest player is 24 — and it shows in the inconsistency. After bright wins over Lens (2-1) and Troyes (6-2), they've gone three league games without a win: a 1-1 draw with Monaco followed by 2-1 defeats to Paris FC and Nice.
Absences hurt: Panichelli, Godo, Nanasi and Doukoure are all reported out, thinning an already young group. But the Meinau remains a fortress of sorts — unbeaten in their last three at home — and Gessime Yassine, Giovanni Reyna and Conrad Harder carry the creative threat.
What to watch
- PSG rotation: With Barcelona on Tuesday, how strong a side does Luis Enrique name?
- Strasbourg's home record: Two of the last three home meetings with PSG produced points for Le Racing.
- Both teams to score: Ten of Strasbourg's last 11 league matches have seen both teams score; PSG have one clean sheet in 12.
- The Monaco gap: A PSG win pulls them level on points with the leaders. Anything less keeps the pressure on.
