Shanghai Masters 2026: Favorites, Value Bets & Outright Odds

Analysis of key matchups at the Shanghai Masters on October 7, 2026. Insights on player form and potential value bets for today's tennis fixtures.

Shanghai Masters 2026: Favorites, Value Bets & Outright Odds

The Rolex Shanghai Masters is underway. The eighth ATP Masters 1000 of the season runs October 7–18 on the outdoor hard courts of Shanghai, with $1,151,380 and 1,000 ranking points waiting for the champion. Here is where the outright market stands, who the genuine contenders are, and where the value lies.

Note: outright odds below are pre-tournament decimal prices and will move as the draw unfolds. This article is informational and educational only — official Saint Picks selections live exclusively in the Picks section.

THE FAVORITES

Carlos Alcaraz @2.35 — The No. 2 seed is the man to beat. Fresh off the Tokyo title, the Spaniard landed in the opposite half from both Djokovic and Zverev: the kindest possible draw path. Short, but fair.

Alexander Zverev @7.00 — The No. 1 seed and the tour's most consistent hard-court force this season. He fell to Djokovic in the Beijing quarterfinals, but over a two-week Masters his baseline game is built for deep runs.

Novak Djokovic @15.00 — The four-time Shanghai champion is chasing a fifth title and arrives as Beijing champion. At 15.00 with that pedigree on these courts, he is the most interesting name on the board — though he shares a half with Zverev.

Ben Shelton @11.00 — The No. 3 seed. A huge serve and a huge game, made for fast hard courts.

DRAW SHAPE

At a 96-player Masters, the draw split matters more than the seed number. Djokovic and Zverev landed in the same (top) half, which theoretically clears Alcaraz's road in the bottom half. Alcaraz's projected path runs through Vacherot or Paul in the fourth round and Medvedev or Fritz in the quarterfinals. Zverev's most dangerous projected quarterfinal opponents are Cobolli or De Minaur.

VALUE BOARD

These are market observations, not official picks:

  • Hubert Hurkacz @51.00 — the market's designated sleeper. An elite serve on a fast hard court makes anyone dangerous for a week.
  • Valentin Vacherot @66.00 — the defending champion. Won it all last year as a qualifier, beating Djokovic in the semifinals. Nobody wants to see his name in their section.
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime @41.00 — the No. 4 seed, though he has only one Masters quarterfinal this season.
  • Daniil Medvedev @26.00 — always live on hard courts at this level.
  • Arthur Fils @15.00 — young, fearless, and seeded eighth.

The big absence: Jannik Sinner withdrew with a knee injury. The world No. 1 had gone 44-3 in 2026 with six titles, including Wimbledon and five Masters 1000s. His withdrawal is the single biggest reason the outright market is this open.

DAY 1 NOTES

  • Matteo Berrettini survived a tricky opener, beating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-4 to set up a second round with Brandon Nakashima.
  • Arthur Fery upset Marin Cilic 7-6, 6-1 on Stadium Court.
  • Adrian Mannarino advanced after Nikoloz Basilashvili retired.
  • Arthur Gea, Miomir Kecmanovic, Tomas Machac, Rei Sakamoto, Roman Safiullin, Quentin Halys, Mattia Bellucci and Yibing Wu also moved through to round two.

HOW TO THINK ABOUT OUTRIGHT BETTING HERE

The outright market at a big Masters is really a draw-path market: who avoids whom, and where the landmines sit. Favorites win these events most years — but Shanghai has chaos in its DNA (see: Vacherot, qualifier, 2025 champion). The classic approach is splitting stakes between the class horse and one or two live longshots with friendly sections of the draw.
