Greece host Germany at Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki on Sunday (2:45 PM ET) with top spot in Nations League Group A2 on the line — and, for the first time in history, it's the Greeks who enter a match against Germany as group leaders.

The story so far

Greece made history on September 27, beating Germany 1-0 in Augsburg for their first-ever victory over Die Mannschaft in eleven attempts. Ivan Jovanovic's side followed that result with a 2-1 win in Serbia and a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands, a match in which they led 2-0 before conceding an 89th-minute equalizer. Seven points from three games, top of the group, and unbeaten in 20 of their last 23 Nations League matches.

Germany, meanwhile, are stumbling through a transition. Jurgen Klopp's experimental side drew 1-1 in the Netherlands after conceding in stoppage time, lost at home to Greece, and finally found some rhythm with a 2-0 win over Serbia on October 1. Four points, third place, and just one win in their last six Nations League outings.

What the odds say

The market still prices the badge over the form: Germany are 1.83–1.92 favorites, with the draw at 3.80–4.00 and Greece out at 4.00–4.30. Goals are expected — Over 2.5 is ~1.68 and BTTS Yes ~1.62 — even though Germany's last four matches all stayed under 2.5 goals and the last two Greece-Germany meetings produced exactly two goals each.

Team news

Greece will be without Arsenal winger Christos Tzolis, who was forced off with a hamstring injury against the Netherlands — a significant absence. Georgios Masouras, who scored and assisted in that game, is expected to deputize. Germany continue to rotate heavily: Jamal Musiala (thigh), Kai Havertz and Nico Schlotterbeck (ankle) are out, while Florian Wirtz captains a youthful side featuring several teenagers.

Betting angles to watch

  • Greece double chance (1X) ~2.00 — the standout value angle on paper: the group leaders are at home against a Germany side that has failed to win four of its last five.
  • Under 2.5 goals ~2.15 — the market expects goals, but the recent evidence from both sides points in the opposite direction.
  • Draw ~3.90 — a draw keeps Greece top regardless of the Netherlands-Serbia result, while cagey, low-margin games have defined this fixture lately.

A Greece win would all but seal a quarter-final berth with two matchdays to spare; a German win would blow the group wide open. Either way, Thessaloniki hosts the most fascinating tactical battle of Sunday's League A slate.
